Suede Cleaning

                                                                     SUEDE CLEANING

Keeping your suede clean is a constant process, but protecting your suede first always helps. Love the warm, soft, and cuddly feeling of suede, but having trouble keeping it clean and soft?  The best way to keep it clean is to use preventative measures or take it to a professional who specilizes in suede cleaning.

Cleaning suede yourself

Here are some simple steps to follow:

1.  Use a dry bath towel to restore some of the nap, by rubbing it in a circular motion.

2.  Use a pencil eraser, (a while eraser not a dyed eraser) gently rub on dry stains or marks to the area.
Wet stains use a paper towel to absorb the liquid. DO NOT use any stain remover or other products not made for suede.

 3.  Use a suede brush -  this is a small brush with bristles that is used for maintaining suede. It is to be used with a suede
cleaner for stains or simply to restore the nap or texture of your suede. Cost around $3.00

4.  May use white vinegar on a dampened cloth for cleaning. Rub gently on the surface with the cloth and let it air dry.

The best way of keeping your suede clean is to spray it with a suede leather protection spray or have it done professionally. Doing this lengthens the life and makes cleaning easier. Usually the suede articles should be cleaned twice a year to keep them looking nice.

Many suede articles today are washable but remember that animal skins do shrink when washed. Always remember to read the instructions on the label carefully.

Steam can be used to clean suede but be careful that it is used only for heating and not for water penetration. Hold the article 6 inches above the steam and once heated, brush it up with a suede brush to clean.

By using a suede brush in a circular motion you can bring flattened suede back to its orginal condition.

Sandpapering ( fine grade of sandpaper)  applied to suede leather can also make it look rough again.

So to sum it all up you can try and clean your suede or you can have a professional do it but always be careful with what you are doing and if in  doubt take it to a professional that specializes in suede cleaning.
